MT. DIABLO - FALLS TRAIL 3-27-2010

I am sorry to announce that the "Best Day Ever Gang" has turned into a bunch of slackers. We have decided it is time to re-commit and get back into shape. However, in retrospect, choosing this hike as a starting point just shows that we are crazy and should be committed.

Tthis is one of our favorite Spring Hikes. We were about a week to early for the wild flowers this year, but when you time it right, they are beautiful.

These two are enjoying a spring walk, comforted with the knowledge that Easter is around the corner and not Thanksgiving.

When it comes to finding the perfect lunch spot, we still have it! Actually, I was sitting in the middle of the trail afraid I would fall if I moved. So it seemed like a good time for lunch.

Some things never change.

We had passed a group of hikers (and I use the word loosely) that were being one with nature while smoking pot. Now we are not prudes, ok maybe Polly is, however, one should not mix smoking pot and climbing hills. It would be extremely easy to fall and you may accidently take me with you. Use your head. That has been a Public Safety Announcement.

We all finished sore and exhausted but with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude that we were still able to make it. That feeling is what makes it a "Best Day Ever".

Polly, my sister, and I began hiking about five years ago. We immediately fell in love with the whole outdoor experience.  Spending  the day away from the worries of the world is like taking a mini vacation. Money cannot buy therapy like this. One day as we were hiking we were making fun of KaRyn, Polly's daughter.  She had called Polly two weekends in a row describing how she had just had her "best day ever." As we were laughing and trying to figure out how each day was her best day ever it occurred to us that she might be on to something.  Each day should be your best day ever.  And that is how we began to think of our Saturday hikes,  the "best day ever" with the exception of Mt. Rawlston, but that is a story for another day.
